Spanish Story Project
How did you come up with your idea?-
I really dug into myself and what I would do to help a child. I've always had this character, the little flame. I guess I drew a lot from my leader nature, and how I just want to protect my own. I took a lot from wanting to keep my people safe and how I love kids. I wanted to give something to the kids that I really didn't have. I went through a lot of dark times as a kid. I wanted to give them a hero, some light in what seems to be a hopeless place for them. I wanted to be a hero and I did that through the little flame.
This project takes our accumulated knowledge from the beginning of the year to the end of the year, and puts it into a book. This gives us the chance to be creative and also lets us show our knowledge. These books are then being printed and sent to Nicaragua and kids will be reading them to learn how to read.
What do you hope students in Nicaragua will get out of your book?
I hope that the kids that read this know they have a safe place in the book. I hope they know that they're important and beautiful. I hope that they feel strong enough to take on the world after reading the book. I hope they smile and bring light to their own lives.
