Genetics Movie Project
Purpose-
What was the purpose of the project?
The purpose of this project was trying to understand what makes a person unique, or what makes up an individual.
To what extent did you, as an individual, meet that purpose?
I believe that I understand the basics of what makes a person unique. From going through the content, chromosomes, meiosis, mitosis, cell division of any sort etc. I feel that I have a good enough understanding to move into next year.
To what extent did we, as a whole class, meet that purpose?
As a class I feel that it may be lacking for some students. Some put an effort into understanding the science and content while some were more connected to the creative or world building part of the movie.
Warm Feedback-
What did you personally do well throughout the project?
I think I did well as a leader, I definitely had some drawbacks from self doubt and stress but I was able to bounce back quickly. I always kept in mind the deadline and what we needed and how we could get it done in a timely manner. I also tried to just keep our people working and moving forward.
What did the whole class do well throughout the project?
After our group had our breakdown we really came together, especially the people acting and directing, also our props people. We came together in such a way that created the mentally to not give up. I remember talking to specially Ava and Ryan and our basic acting group and we all agreed that we put so much work into it that we didn't want to give up. Also, from that mentality we weren't worried about our product. We focused on quality over quantity, such as our movie was only 5 minutes not 30 but was the best production.
Areas for Growth-
What challenges did you experience on a personal level (try to think about what you had control over)? What challenges did we experience as a whole class?
I had a huge challenge in the beginning trying to delegate tasks between my group which made me really frustrated and I felt blamed for a lot of the groups issues. I was doing the best I could. We had a lot of task delegation and communication issues which led to a project breakdown.
How could these challenges (both personal and whole class) be better handled in the future (again, think about what you can control)?
Small groups and not completely set roles I think would work best.
What did collaboration look like in this project?
Groups split off, we had our actors and director, art director and a couple prop people. That's all we needed so everyone else didn't have a task.
How did you collaborate in this project?
I was an art director and I was mostly in a boss position. I usually tried to delegate tasks and I tried to keep people on track while also creating our monster boy(Tanner).
Looking forward-
What would you change about your approach to collaboration? What would you change about the project?
I think that there should be small group movies instead of a whole class movie. We had a lot of issues with finding jobs and I think it would be cool to have some smaller more individual movies to show. We also should have our own materials(cameras, tripods, etc.). Changing when the project is actually happening I think would be good. It was super stressful trying time manage with testing and other projects.
What would you keep the same about the project?
I love the very student lend portions, and the democratic nature. The organization was awesome. The whittling process was straightforward and everyone had a say. I believe this is very important in any group setting.
